Strasbourg court rejects further complaints against Poland's ban on eugenic abortion

The European Court of Human Rights has once again rejected a series of complaints against Poland's ban on eugenic abortion, in effect since a 2020 Constitutional Court ruling. The applicants claimed that protecting the lives of disabled unborn children constitutes a form of torture and violates their right to privacy. The Court showed that they had not explained how specifically they were harmed by the ban, when most of them were not even pregnant. In total, the ECHR has received some 1,000 complaints in such cases.

Strasbourg court orders Romania to institutionalize same-sex cohabitation, despite opposition from majority of society

· The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Romania violated the right to respect for private and family life of 21 same-sex couples who complained that their cohabitation could not be formalized.

· The complainants demanded payment of more than half a million euros in compensation for the "psychological suffering" involved.

· The Court ruled on the violation, but refused to award compensation.

ECHR Grand Chamber ruling may force Poland to institutionalize same-sex unions - Ordo Iuris analysis

- In early 2023. The Grand Chamber of the Strasbourg Court found a violation of the right to respect for private and family life of a group of same-sex couples due to the inability to formalize their relationship.

- The Ordo Iuris Institute has prepared an analysis in which it points out that although the Grand Chamber's judgment is formally addressed to the Russian Federation, in practice it may affect Poland and other European countries.
