The European Court of Human Rights ruled that depriving a father of the possibility to maintain contact with his daughter based on false accusations of domestic violence constitutes a violation of his right to respect for private and family life.

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has received 16 complaints against the Norwegian government from parents. They raise the violation of the parents' right to respect for family life. All of them pertain to the actions of the same institution – Norway's child protection agency, Barnevernet.

Norway is notorious for human rights infringements, in particular when it comes to family and children's rights. This has been proved by the case of Silje Garmo, a Norwegian woman who was granted asylum in Poland after she escaped unjustified intrusion into her family life by the Child Welfare Services – Barnevernet.

An international conference on the importance of the family for society and the need for its effective legal protection was held at the UN headquarters in New York. The event took place on the occasion of the International Family Day.

A Russian family living in Sweden is applying for refugee status in Poland. Their three daughters were taken from their parents and given to Muslims for foster care. In Poland, the Swedish services attempted to take the daughters away from their father.

Over recent months there have been attempts at the local government level in order to undermine the rights of families, including the rights of parents and children, as well as legal identity and constitutional position of marriage, which are all guaranteed by the Constitution.
