The UN monitoring bodies examine the Member States' compliance with the international human rights treaties and their implementation. In this context, the Ordo Iuris Institute has submitted three important reports to the United Nations concerning the protection of life and motherhood in Poland, indicating i.a. the inadmissibility of legislation that endangers the lives of unborn children with disabilities and discrimination against mothers dedicating their time to childcare.

A draft of the international Convention on the Rights of the Family, prepared by experts of the Ordo Iuris Institute on the initiative of MEP Marek Jurek, was presented in the European Parliament. The document is intended to protect the rights of the family as a community, as well as the rights of parents and children, as an alternative to the ideological assumptions of the Istanbul Convention affecting the family in a negative manner. The principles of the Convention were presented for the first time in Warsaw.

Taking advantage of the special consulting status bestowed by The UN Economic and Social Council, Ordo Iuris calls for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein to take a stand against a series of human and children’s rights violations which took place in the case of Alfie Evans.

The SSM discourse is working hard to establish the idea that EU Member States that do not legally recognize the same-sex marriages being contracted in another EU Member State, commit “serious violations of one of the fundamental EU principles – freedom of movement of citizens”. Clearly the intention of this argument is to convince the politicians and the general public that the free movement of persons requires the possibility that “every” family (defined as every kind of partnership), shall be able to move together in the EU.

The Ordo Iuris institute has submitted a special report to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in order to direct its attention to the issues surrounding the lives of disabled children before birth and the insufficient protection of their lives in the Polish legislation.
